Just Remember?

If you were wondering about the title of this shrine, you've come to the right place. I'm a casual fan of the music group known as Sister Hazel. You may recognize them from their song called "All For You," which became fairly popular sometime in the late 90's. On their album Somewhere More Familiar, the same album that features "All For You," is another song called "Just Remember."

I had owned that album for a few years when D-M's closed for the first time. I was pretty torn up for a few days after the official closing, as I thought it was the end of a part of my life that I had really come to enjoy. Sometime during those few days, I happened to listen to this song, and the lyrics just struck me. I probably cried, I don't remember, but I had that song on repeat for the rest of the day.

Why do I make such a strong connection between D-M's and this song? Look at the imagery. A crumbling reminder of a good time gone by, and it's still beautiful.

If you'd like to hear it, I've put the song up for download. Just click here and follow the simple instructions to download. (Hosting courtesy of Tripod, since I only have five measly megabytes of space here.)

"Just Remember"
Sister Hazel

A crooked chimney standing in the middle of a field
Once surrounded by the walls of work
By laughter and by love
The sound of children playing
And the sound of people saying
I love you -- yeah, you

A crooked tree stands naked near the center of the field
Barely rooted in the browns and grays
Of earth that once was green
A place long since forgotten
In a world of yesterday
Except by me -- yeah, me

And oh, whose plan was this anyway
Cause I never thought He would want it to be that way
It once was beautiful, right here
It still is beautiful, in here
You once were beautiful, I hear
I hear it can be beautiful
Just remember

A twisted little image in your perfect little world
Of the chapter where it'd all begun
About a song already sung
Burnt around the edges
Nearly faded, nearly gone
Even you -- yeah, you

A shiny building standing near the center of today
Where indifferent people go to work
Go about their pay
Knowing they've forgotten in a most convenient way
Yesterday, away

And oh, whose plan was this anyway
Cause I never thought He would want it to be that way

It once was beautiful, right here
It still is beautiful, in here
You once were beautiful, I hear
I hear it can be beautiful
Just remember

The shrine is dedicated to the spirit of D-M's and all the people who made it was it was. Thank you for everything. Your ex-admin and fellow oldbie forever, DigiFaith.
